FATİH MİKA ENGRAVING EXHIBITION
“CARP FİSH”
When the engraver Fatih Mika wanted to make engraving inspired by the readings of Sait Faik; The carpenter takes the fish from the public market in Piazza Vittorio in Italy, nails it on a cardboard and puts it in the freezer. From time to time, he takes his model out of the deep freezer and puts it in front of it and leaves the fish back in the deep freezer. He also studies the patterns of many carpentry tools he thinks will be necessary on this topic. But in the end, he processes the carpenter fish on a wooden floor that he thinks will suit his carpenter fish. The works in this exhibition are the product of such a process. Combining the traditional and the experimental in engraving technique, Fatih Mika also adds impressive thematic expressions to deep-print engraving techniques (acid-engraving, sandblasting, dry-engraving, soft-wax, sugar-tile, piecing-printing, etc.).
Sait Faik In one of his stories he tells the carpenter fish; “The carpenter fish, which Greek fishermen call Hrisopsaros-Hristos, was once a terrible sea monster. Before Jesus was born, he terrorized the Mediterranean. See a Phoenician fall into the sea! The number of Kartacah puller and Israeli fishing boat he overturned has not been counted. Cuts, reaps; chops, spurs; he puts on, tears; tears, throws; pulls, shreds. The most daring of the Mediterranean; The pirates, who were not afraid of humans, animals, storms, lightning, trouble and torture, were turned white when they heard the name of the carpenter fish. One day, Jesus saw fishermen who left their boats in great fear and fled while wandering by the sea. “What are you going on?” he asked. Fishermen: “Oh!” they said. “Oh, oh! El aman from this monster! He broke our sandals, ripped our friends. Worst of all, we couldn’t fish, we’ll starve. ” Isa, barefoot, walked towards the sea where hundreds of carpenter fish mingled. He took the biggest one out of the water with his long-fingered hands. Holding tightly between the thumbs of both hands, bent over, said something to his ear… Since that day, the carpenter fish, the view of the seas is very dreadful; but his habit is a very docile, very poor creature. It has protrusions similar to nails, cutters, curves, pincers, saws, files in many parts, and spines between bone and awn. The name of the carpenter fish must have been attached to it because of these.
