Master of Line and Color

“Because it was drunkenness, art was not sleeping in the bed made for it, it would run away immediately when called by its name.”
Sabri Berkel

For those who are integrated with his art, his work is perceived as his mirror, identity. Even the most impersonal works tell us something about their creator. Sabri Fettah Berkel’s works are part of his creator rather than a mirror. For Berkel, every work is like an extension of his “anxious” and “conscious” personality. Berkel; His disciplined, distant, rational stance, art and life systematics, his style of work, tranquility, and a fond of order and form have turned him into an artist like a scientist; In fact, the unorthodox nature of his workshop, house, clothing and life made him look like an extremely different, extraordinary artist. The most important representatives of abstract art in Turkey Sabri Berkel Classic apart from that thinking, he needs to understand how to produce artists of the twentieth century. Even though he had an unnoticed solidity in his works and an understanding that did not include coincidences, he managed to be productive, from the smallest line he drew to his gigantic paintings. He knew that being a painter, being an artist, is through thinking about plasticism and putting it into practice as much as possible.

With his stubborn personality, we see his obsession with “repetition” in his early period portraits, which does not prevent him from drawing the same subjects over and over again in drawing notebooks and from trying again with different materials and techniques. These repetitions, revealing the depth and analytical analysis, were the creation of thought, color and form for Berkel. It is not difficult to find the simplest expressions of the plastic language modernized with calligraphy and architecture in Sabri Berkel’s works. There were two main factors Its official: lines and colors … Turkey’s history of art is undoubtedly the most important, patience is the most extraordinary artist Berkel names have not yet found attention and appreciation it deserves compared with the interest shown in the artist on the agenda. This exhibition, which includes thirty-three works of the artist from various periods, titled “Master of Line and Color – Sabri Berkel” at ART Suites Gallery, can be perceived as a reminder in this respect.
