Serkan Yüksel,He is exhibiting his painting works under the title of “GRAMMER” between 20 October – 18 November at ART SUITES GALLERY. For Yüksel, the works, whose background stretches for many years, but for this personal first (painting) exhibition for more than two years, are built on “language and speech”, all consisting of dense lines and stains on a white background, the partnership of verbal and form… Artist; With the well-planned and prepared notebooks that he collected, collected, problematized and searched for solutions, carefully drawn on the corrosive side of social life and stowed in his library in his workshop, he actually produces his works with a working process that will be less exemplified in today’s art …
Language difference as a flaw it stands on mankind. Although it is only one of a thousand and one flaws, this difference has caused the biggest troubles to him. The memory book of the world is full of stories about the two sides who want a ceasefire to continue the war just because they do not understand each other. Language creates agreement, agreement also man.Because man is incapable of making sense of his existence with the words of others. The gaze of others makes us visible, we envy the connection that others establish with another, we envy someone else’s words. To maintain this vicious, vicious as well as the real cycle, one needs language; language is what sets it apart from other living things. For this reason, people think with words before colors, smells and images.
Serkan Yüksel tries to express the language sometimes with his own truth and sometimes with wings in his paintings. The language, which he tries to make concrete with color and lines, leaves its creator and the surface by winging it. This can be read as a reference to the impermanence of the word. Isn’t the fact that the words that determine, change and sometimes disappear and sometimes create our lives are not permanent, is it not a proof of how out of people he is? Yuksel; He knows that he cannot keep the language in his paintings too much, but he can take advantage of every aspect. It depicts action, conflict, peace, reconciliation, promises and whatever language is concerned. He manages to turn language into many things at once. Sometimes he gets angry, sometimes he loves and makes love, sometimes it is said.
The artist deliberately emphasizes violence in some of his paintings, while throwing it back in others, but he always perceives violence as part of the painting and language.

“Shattering and reconstructing language”

The descendants of those who were expelled from Paradise came together with great greed. They would make a tower of clay and look after their god. At that time, they all spoke the same language, and the whole world could speak only one language. The other understood one’s words, the other’s gaze the other. Perhaps it was the common language of mankind that made their kings brave enough to want to look at God. However, when the tower construction began, God was offended by these people who questioned their perfection. He created them from himself and they looked like him. The language they spoke began to change as the tower got closer to the god. After a while, each race found itself understood in a different language. And in the chaos, the tower that the descendants of the man had dreamed to build to approach God was destroyed. When human beings started to live in different geographies with different languages, it was no longer as perfect as its god.

The tower ascending to the sky was a symbol of perfection as well as a man’s dreams. Here came the beauty of Babylon. That was the connection we established with someone else.
Serkan Yüksel is now a part of this research. Someone who chose to rest a man at the foot of the Tower of Babel. He embroidered it on canvases and engraved it on papers … Even when he was making “Praise for the Shadow” part of the series, what he actually wanted to say is the complexity of the language and meaning. Yüksel makes Borges’s fragmented personality a part of the exhibition. The reason why the person of the painting is ambiguous is to refer to this confusion. “Are you Borges?” If the answer to the question “Sometimes” is “Is it Borges in Serkan Yüksel’s painting?”, the answer to the question “Sometimes” will be “Sometimes.” Here language, that is, the organ that human beings use to relate to nature and its own kind cannot be defined as an abstract communication tool. These definitions of language are destroyed in the way he deals with his paintings. Now he is too incapable to even give a very clear question and “Praise for the Shadow” will continue the joy of being a “Sometimes” alone in the shadow of the Tower of Babel. Sometimes he tells the truth and sometimes he tells the truth with wings. isn’t it even a proof of how out of people he is? Yüksel said that he can’t keep the language in his paintings too much. Departing from a Julio Cortazar story, he shows his anger and toughness at himself and also refers to Latin American literature as in Borges.
Actually, the whole Latin American literature does not concern him. Originally referring to the current “Magical Realism” or what some translate as “Fancy Realism”. It is possible to see that the same trend is reflected in all of the works in many ways … Yüksel is told by embellishing or fascinating quite ordinary things. First, it takes the audience away from the reality of the subject. While making him feel that he will tell something completely different, he again leaves the audience face to face with reality. Without denying the existence of the truth, he tries to come to terms with it and does this with another language tool, “painting”
