The works of four women artists under the curatorship of Camille Rodskjaer come together with an exhibition titled “Opposite Edges” between 10 May and 3 June at Beyoğlu Art Suites Gallery.

As a conceptual framework, “Opposing Edges” focuses on issues of local, emotional or psychological content that are difficult to define and understand. The opposite ideas and beauty element used in the works within the scope of the exhibition; presents a selection of works expressed in different forms such as drawing, photography, painting, animation and video.
Istanbul, which is a historical and cultural landmark; It is a very effective venue for this exhibition, which will be realized by French, Czech and Turkish artists. Artists try to understand and solve the ambiguity of meaning that arises thanks to the contrasting elements in their works. The works in the exhibition have a privileged quality in understanding the metaphysical properties of existence.
Our struggle to determine our position in society in the 21st century, which is in constant development and change, will enable everyone who visits the exhibition to find a familiar point in the works exhibited. The items that the artists question with these works will be a guide for all of us.

Artists:

Hülya, by reflecting the constantly advancing technology and developing environments, transforms us into idealized film frames and by doing so, creates imaginary worlds. In his works, he brings together the films of the old times of Turkish cinema with contemporary film frames, in an attempt to fully meet our desires and passions.

Similarly, the concept of identity gains importance in the works of Marta. In his works, the artist shows that while dealing with the cultural differences in his new homeland, on the other hand, he fully feels the disconnection created by the effect of being brought up with a communist mentality in the Czech Republic. He also makes use of his memories and experiences to help him in his works, and the accidental ideas found in his subconscious to shape the artistic expression of his ambiguous identity.

The bicultural element in Güler’s work can be explained by using symbols that combine Eastern exoticism and Victorian peculiarity. The continuity and tides in his work give a sense of undefinition in a close inner world. The pioneering personality in his works is completely independent from outside. In their work, Güler and Marta wanted to describe the mood that could not be fully understood.

The borders that Céline tries to define in her works are among the phenomena of seeing and creating. The mental and physical elements in his works can be found under the pictures and drawings, or they can be completely exhibited. In addition to pushing the boundaries with the photographs and artistic elements in his works, he also fundamentally questions creativity.
